The most significant endeavor at Sugarloaf since the installation of the SuperQuad, the West Mountain project has transformed more than 450 acres of terrain, adding a new high-speed lift, a dozen new trails, and the rare opportunity for current and aspiring Sugarloafers to build the custom ski-in/ski-out slopeside home of their dreams.
The all-new West Mountain is now open. Forever changing the ski and ride experience here at Sugarloaf, West Mountain adds a new dynamic catering to all ability levels and age. From incredible views of the Crocker mountains to wide open trails perfect for carving, it rivals most Northeast ski areas and not to be missed.
Bucksaw Express
NOW OPEN FEBUARY 2024
The centerpiece and first phase of the West Mountain Expansion is the new “Bucksaw Express” chairlift – a Doppelmayr high-speed detachable quad which transports skiers and riders from its base on West Mountain Road up to Bullwinkle’s Restaurant.

The development also includes 12 new alpine trails, that will be a mix of beginner and intermediate terrain, creating a pod of beginner and family-friendly trails on West Mountain that will rival some entire ski areas in its size, with nearly 300 acres of developed trails and glades spanning 1,500 vertical feet. The expansion will increase Sugarloaf’s total skiable acreage by nearly 10%.
The new trails were cut during winter and summer 2023, and opened to the public with the new Bucksaw Express in February, 2024, forever changing the Sugarloaf ski/ride experience.
